A ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled to happen today will be celebrating the official launch of a drug addiction treatment center in Warsaw, Indiana. The center focuses on delivering group therapy to patients struggling with substance use disorders in Kosciusko County.
Groups Recover Together is a healthcare provider with over 60 substance abuse treatment centers across seven states. The new facility, which has been open since June 24, is the 23rd Groups Recover Together location in Indiana and among several drug addiction recovery centers the company has opened over the last five months.
Every drug addiction treatment center under the Groups Recover Together brand allows people in various stages of their addiction recovery to help one another.
A drug addiction treatment center in Warsaw adds some assistance to a city that has been laboring for several years on how to handle the opioid epidemic.
There were 77 heroin arrests recorded in 2017, a significant increase from the 28 cases reported in 2016, according to the 2018 State of the City Script. Methamphetamine labs were not very prevalent in Warsaw but the use of the drug remained high due to the availability of imported street meth.
The Warsaw Police Department has been tasked with fighting the local drug problem and helping people in need.
Warsaw recently announced a new jail treatment program to reduce repeated drug offenses by helping inmates that are struggling with substance use disorders at the Kosciusko County Jail after the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department received a grant of $87,800 from the Indiana Drug Enforcement Association.
According to the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office, there were 24 opioid-related overdose deaths in Kosciusko County in 2017, up from 15 in 2016, and 321 narcan administrations, up from 314 in 2016.
A representative from Groups Recover Together stated that the organization primarily focuses on opioids but also treats other substance use disorders.
Therapy sessions are held weekly and patients check in with their physicians once a month. Groups Recover Together offers its patients an open-door policy with no restrictions on when a person can come in for assistance.
The representative highlighted that the policy is in place to encourage patients to engage with others when they feel tempted to use.
The weekly cost for a patient to use the center’s services is $65.
The state of Indiana has been working collectively with counties across the state to open more addiction recovery centers and find other ways to help people struggling with substance use disorders.
Last year, the 2017 Indiana Integrated Response to the Opioid Crisis was launched and included six major goals to counter the opioid abuse problem.
The first goal was to expand the Indiana Prescription Drug Monitoring Program to reduce the number of prescription drugs dispensed. Another goal, the Environmental Prevention Expansion, looked to create a system designed to help prevent the use of opioids.
The Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes was created to address the need for more healthcare education and medication-assisted treatment training to enable practitioners who treat people with opioid use disorders to become better informed.
The Indiana Peer Recovery and Support Initiative was devised to build more integrated treatment, especially for people that are struggling with opioid use disorders.
The last goals involved creating more inpatient addiction treatment centers to increase resources for inpatient and residential drug detoxification facilities as well as mobile crisis teams to reduce the number of overdose deaths.
