First Inpatient Drug Detox Center in Linthicum to Open Soon

An inpatient drug detox center will be opening soon in Linthicum, Maryland that will allow people struggling with substance use disorder to obtain immediate detoxification.

Maryland House Detox officials are attempting to assure that the new drug detox center will serve all the residents of Anne Arundel County.

Maryland House Detox wants to focus on potential patients’ needs for instant detox services but that would require patients to follow up with treatment.

Anne Arundel County had 157 drug-related overdoses between January and September 2017 — 145 of those involved opioids and 91 involved heroin, according to the Maryland Department of Health.

This would be the first addiction treatment center in Linthicum, according to the 2017 National Directory of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Treatment Facilities.

The inpatient drug detox center will have 16 beds in separate rooms to accommodate men and the women. The treatment center will also include a communal area and a kitchen with a chef and two cooks.

The treatment facility will be open 24 hours a day with medical officials available round-the-clock to help with patients in need of detox.

The inpatient drug detox center will be a short-term facility that will welcome people for a few days before referring them to alternative care if needed. The Maryland House Detox is anticipating assisting 80 to 100 people a month.

Scott Dehorty, the executive director of the Maryland Detox House, indicated that there will be two beds that are specifically reserved for Medicaid patients but the the other beds will be prioritized to patients with private insurance.

He indicated that they are not going to turn people away who do not have private insurance even if they do have a higher priority in caring for patients who do have insurance.

The Maryland Health Care Commission has given the facility preliminary permission to open its doors but the Maryland Detox House is still awaiting the final decision from the state.

Dehorty stated that despite not yet getting the final approval to operate, the inpatient drug detox center has an arrangement from CareFirst, the biggest private insurer in the area.
