Washington Health System (WHS) Greene Hospital in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania is about to add inpatient addiction treatment services to their hospital thanks to an affiliation with Greenbriar Treatment Center.
WHS Greene Hospital is the only hospital in Greene County and will now have a new affiliation with Greenbriar Treatment Center to add inpatient services.
Greenbriar Treatment Center, which has locations throughout Pennsylvania, offers multiple services including addiction recovery, detoxification, inpatient rehab, outpatient services and a few of their centers offer halfway houses. They are a subsidiary of the Washington Health System.
The inpatient addiction treatment program will be known as 3C level program and will accept patients from throughout the area but will be focusing on residents of Washington and Greene Counties.
Currently, the closest inpatient addiction treatment facility is in Erie, which is over 149 miles away. A 3C Program is intended to assist those in dire need of help, like those who have experienced numerous overdoses or multiple addiction treatment attempts that require around-the-clock care.
WHS-Greene’s current behavioral unit is where the 3C Program will be placed. A press release indicated that the WHS is providing $250,000 for revamps and enhancements to the program which includes placing 28 beds inside the facility.
There were 97 drug-related overdoses in Washington in 2017, which was down from 109 drug-related overdoses in 2016, according to the Report for the Coroner’s Office.
Greene County had 12 drug-related overdoses in 2017, which was down from 19 in 2016, according to Greene County Coroner Gene Rush.
There is a facility in Waynesburg that provides outpatient services but this will be the first inpatient addiction treatment center in the area, according to the 2017 National Directory of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Treatment Facilities.
WHS-Greene and Greenbriar said in a joint statement that the 3C program will treat people in a supervised setting for three to four months to encourage their adjustment to new life skills. Discussions with managed care payers will provide a solution on how funding will be made.
Mary Banaszak, the CEO at Greenbriar, said that she hopes that the inpatient addiction treatment facility will be open by the end of summer. She indicated that the contracts are being secured by officials.
She highlighted that the inpatient addiction treatment facility will generate 20 new jobs for Greene County and she anticipates involving the local recovery community in their effort.
Banaszak stated that they were attempting to open this 3C facility for over a year.
