The six council members who voted in favor of the addiction treatment center explained that the location still needs more rehab centers because the opioid epidemic has severely impacted the area.

But they explained that all of the other districts also need to focus on expanding the number of substance abuse programs and facilities available so that Toledo residents who struggle with an addiction don’t have to travel to the central part of the city to get treated.

Toledo Mayor, Wade Kapszukiewicz, is going to be the person in charge of making a final decision. He is expected to meet with the rest of the council members to vote on the measure in two weeks.

If Kapszukiewicz’s vote is in favor, the new drug and alcohol recovery center is expected to be operating within three months.
