alcohol and drug abuse prevention programs and services to spread awareness to almost 80,000 individuals a year in San Antonio and surrounding areas — was awarded a grant from SAMHSA of $600,000.
The federal grant was announced four months ago and will provide $200,000 a year for three years to the nonprofit organization, which in turn, will mobilize resources in and out of the addiction treatment community to increase the quality of support obtained by individuals in recovery.
“It’s a privilege and honor to serve our community,” said Abigail Moore, the CEO of the San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug.
The council also has been supporting community efforts through a program called Project Recovery Texas, which provides services to people who have a substance use disorder throughout the entire state. Some of the services the initiative has been making available include peer-to-peer outreach gatherings as well as public provisional training.
Project Recovery Texas has also been leading a number of educational sessions in different areas in hopes to lessen the stigma associated with substance use disorders among different communities.
